The stage for The Resurgence conference! Super cool. I’m having a blast. My friends at Real Men Defined sent me here to learn about church planting. Check us out @ www.realmendefined.com
Enjoying a bit of downtime right now. The internet is up. Figured I could update el blogo for the first time since Fuse left Alajuelita. Haven’t had time to capture any video so no videos, but I have a bunch of cool footage. You’ll have to wait for that. So:
Since Fuse left 6:8 has allowed me to join them as an intern, so I am helping Anton (another intern) at the Refugio. It’s a men’s center run by 6:8, right now it’s basically a warehouse with a halfpipe and 3 bunk beds and a room upstairs where me and Anton sleep. It’s full right now with 6 guys from the streets of Alajuelita. They all have some sort of addiction (as we all do) and are trying (sometimes) to get their lives back together. We open up around 7 PM and then hang out, maybe do some bible study, eat, hang out more, go to sleep. Then we wake up and go to church, work, or whatever, depending on the day. I have spent most of the days I’ve been here with the team that is currently here. A team of 21 from Cranberry Township, PA. Mostly high schoolers and some leaders. They are building a house for a guy named Juan Carlos who is a part of the church here. We put on the floor today, now we just have to put up the walls and some roofing and it’ll be finished. The team has a free day tomorrow, they’re going to Jaco just like Fuse did, me and Anton (and whoever else wants to go) are going to see Escazu, because there is no room on the bus to Jaco.
I can’t get enough of the song “Like a Lion” on Passion: Awakening (thanks to Michael Mishoe for introducing me to it). It’s awesome, here are the lyrics:
Let love explode and bring the dead to life
A love so bold
To see a revolution somehow.
Let love explode and bring the dead to life
A love so bold
To bring a revolution somehow
Now I’m lost in your freedom
This world I’ll overcome.
My God is not dead
He’s surely alive
He’s living on the inside
Roaring like a lion
Let hope arise and make the darkness hide
My faith is dead
I need a resurrection somehow
Let Heaven roar and fire fall
come shake the ground
with the sound of revival
It really gets me psyched to be like Jesus. Who has been blowing my mind lately. The things the Holy Spirit can do when we give it room. MIND BLOWING.
Gotta go, team’s back.
I’ve noticed the phrase “doing life” has totally permeated our society. But what does it mean? Was “living” not sufficient for us? “Doing life” together cannot be once, twice, or even three times a week. If we were really experiencing life together it would be everyday. Life doesn’t happen on 7 PM on Tuesdays every other week; it happens every moment we experience something. It is every second, minute, hour. And I know I can’t speak for everyone but I cannot even come close to compressing my week or even my day into a 2 hour block with 7-10 other people. The multitude of emotions, thoughts, experiences, prompts and denials from the Holy Spirit that occur in my life every second, minute, hour will never be conveyed efficienty to another person or group of people unless they experience it in real time. Maybe I am just a terrible communicator or story teller. For me to be a part of someone’s life and for them to understand mine, we will have to be in contact more than 2 hours once a week.
